Inspection sinker pipeline Waterbedrijf Groningen

The Groningen water company suspected a leak in a main water pipe that is under the water near the Berlage Bridge in Groningen. Diving had to take place near a busy intersection in the waterway. To ensure the safety of the diver, we carried out waterway surveillance during the job using a rib and skipper.

The diver was able to quickly trace the leak in collaboration with our ROV. It concerned a 500 mm concrete pipeline where a hole was found of approximately 70 cm long and 15-30 cm wide (see sonar image). It was therefore not surprising that the diver felt the cold water flowing from the pipe. We have determined and measured the location. We then transferred the data to Waterbedrijf Groningen, and in the meantime preparations have been initiated to install a new sinker pipeline under the canal.
